二つの価格の違うワインを飲んで「私は両者の区別ができない」と言いたかったのですが、「区別できない」の表現に迷いました。「区別する」「見分ける」の表現を、早速、調べました。
■ tell ～ apart – – ～を区別する、～を見分ける
*「apart」は、副詞で「離れて、別れて、別々に」という意味です。
私はそれらを区別することができない。
I cannot tell them apart.
あなた方二人は見分けがつかない。
I can’t tell the two of you apart.
しばしば私はその二つの愛情を区別して言うことができない。
Often I can’t tell the two affections apart.
この街の家はとてもよく似ているので、私は見分けがつかない。
All the houses in this town look so much alike that I can’t tell them apart.
