中学か高校で習った記憶がある「be good at」という表現。日常であまり使ってないことに気づきました。十分理解できていないためのように思われますので、早速、調べることにしました。
■ be good at – – 得意である、上手である、上手い、堪能である
■ be not good at / be no good at – – 苦手である、下手である
私は料理が得意です。
I am good at cooking.
あなたは日本語が上手いです。
You are good at Japanese.
彼女は歌が上手です。
She is good at singing.
私は水泳が苦手です。
I’m not good at swimming.
あなたは計算が苦手です。
You are not good at figures.
彼は英語が下手です。
He is no good at speaking English.
彼女はそれが苦手です。
She is not good at that.
図画が得意な人もいる。
Some people are good at drawing.
私はヒーローだ、なぜならばガンと戦うのが得意だから。
I am a superhero because I’m good at fighting cancer.
私は若い頃から絵を描くのが得意だった。
I have been good at painting since I was young.
息子は子供の時から走るのが得意だった。
My son has been good at running since he was a child.
「I’m good.」だけですと「私は元気です」というニュアンスが強いですが、上記の様になると「得意」「不得意」というニュアンスに変わります。
