知人にあることをこっそり話そうをしたら既に知っていました。「あっ、ばれてた。」って言いたかったのですが、「ばれる」の表現がわかりませんでしたので、「I knew you had already noticed that.」と言いました。「ばれる」の表現について、早速、調べました。
■ come to light – – ばれる、明らかになる、表ざたになる、知れる、分かる
その事件の新事実が明らかになった。
The new fact about the matter has come to light.
刑事裁判で悪事が顕れた。
A crime has come to light at the criminal trial.
*「criminal trial」は、「刑事裁判」と言う意味です。
調査の結果、新事実が発覚した。
On inquiry, a new fact has come to light.
*「inquiry」は、「質問、照会、調査」と言う意味です。
ジョンは汚職がばれて解雇されたそうだ。
They say John was fired after his corruption came to light.
*「corruption」は、「贈賄、汚職」という意味です。
エミリーが帰宅していなかったことはばれた。
It came to light that Emily hadn’t come back home.
もし、美人モデルとのあの夜のスキャンダルがばれたら、ライアンは社会的地位を失うだろう。
If the scandal of spending the night with a beautiful model came to light, Ryan would lose his social position.
「ばれる」は、「notice」「know」「realize」 「come out」「be discovered」「be found out」などいろいろな表現でも、そのニュアンスを表現できます。 今回は「come to light」を覚えて、今後使用する様にしたいと思います。
