「フィリピンはもっと民主化を目指すべきだ」と言いたかったのですが、「目指す」の表現が良くわかりませんでした。早速、調べました。
■ aim – – （自動詞）目指す、志す
私は看護師を目指します。
I aim to be a nurse.
私たちは海外進出を目指す。
We aim for an overseas promotion.
全員が大学進学を目指します。
All of them aim for college.
私たちは平和を目指していくべきです。
We should aim for peace.
この車はあの丘を目指す。
This car is aiming to reach that hill.
その会社はフィリピンへの進出を目指している。
The company aims to branch out into the Philippines.
私は父のような医師になることを目指す。
I am aiming to become a doctor like my father.
私たちは2015年のそれの商品化を目指しています。
We aim to commercialize it in 2015.
■ try – – やってみる、努力する
日本オリンピックチームは連続３度目の進出を目指す。
Japan Olympic Team will try to advance for the third time in a row.
*「in a row」は、「連続的に」の意味です。
我社でも年俸制を導入し、業績向上を目指す。
My company introduced an annual salary system to try to improve performance.
医科大学を目指して頑張ってきましたが、考えを変えました。
I was going to try to get into a Medical College, but I’ve changed my mind.
上のレベルを目指すよりも、今のレベルを保つ事べきだ。
Before we try to move up to the next level, we should need to focus on keeping what we have.
