ペアの「片方の靴」「片方の〇〇」って英語でいうと?

「(ぺアの)片方の靴が見つからない」という時にどの様な表現が正しいのかふと考えました。早速、ペアの「片方の靴」「片方の〇〇」について調べました。

彼女は靴下を履いた。
She wore a pair of socks.

私は新しい靴を買った。
I bought a new pair of shoes.

私は妹に新しいスキーをあげた。
I gave my sister a new pair of skis.


私の片方の靴下はどこ?

Where is my other sock?
Where is the mate to this sock?
*「mate」は「相棒、仲間、つがいの一方」という意味です。
Where is the other pair to this sock?

片方のスリッパが無くなった。
One slipper is missing.
The mate to this slipper is missing.
The other pair to this slipper is missing.

娘はブーツの片方を失くした。
My daughter lost the mate to her boot.

このイヤリングの片方が見つからない。
I cannot find the mate to this earring.
I cannot find the other pair to this earring.

その少年は片方の目が不自由だ。
The boy is blind in one eye.


「a new pair of 〇〇」「a pair of new 〇〇」がどの様に違うのか気になりましたので調べました。

新しい1組の手袋を買った。
A) I bought a new pair of gloves.

1組の新しい手袋を買った。
B) I bought a pair of new gloves.

A)とB)の微妙なニュアンスの違いについての意見もあります。A)は、買ったものが新品とは限らないとか、B)は新品のニュアンスがあるとか、などです。ただ、多数の意見としてはA)の方がより一般的でB)はあまり使わないというものでした。
