■ say bad things about～ – – ～の悪口を言う
他人の悪口を言うな。

■ speak ill of～ – – ～の悪口を言う、～を悪く言う
他人のを悪口を言うべきでない。

「悪口を言う」の表現は、実にたくさんありますので、覚えるのはなかなか難しいです。「say bad things about」は覚えやすく、相手にも理解されやすい表現ではと思います。また、悪口の内容にも寄りますが、「complain」も「悪口」の表現の一つとして押さえておきたい表現です。
