メールやWebサイト上で時々発生する「文字化け」。過去に何度か使うことがありその度に調べているのですが、分り難くてすぐに忘れてしまいます。早速、再度調べることにしました。
以前は、「I can’t read your e-mail because the characters is not English. They are like symbols.」の様に表現していました。それでも、相手には通じていた様です。
■ garble – – （形容詞）事実を曲げた
■ garble – – （他動詞）事実を曲げる、誤って伝える
■ garble – – （名詞）歪めること、ゆがめられたもの、歪曲、文字化け
■ garbled – – （形容詞）事実を曲げた、不明瞭な、意味不明の
■ 文字化け – – funny characters、garbled characters
文字化けしている。
The characters were garbled.
あなたのメールは、文字化けしている。
Your e-mail is garbled.
このテキストは文字化けしている。
This text is full of garble.
あなたからのメールが文字化けしています。
I got an e-mail from you that was full of garble.
あなたのメールは文字化けしていて読めませんでした。

ナオミさんからメールもらったんだけど。文字化けして読めません。

このファイルにはたくさんの文字化けがある。
There are a lot of weird characters in this file.
*「weird characters」は、「奇妙な文字」「文字化け」と言う意味になります。
文字化けは、あまり英語では発生しない様です。日本語の「mojibake」も、Sashimi, Tenpuraの様に、周知の英単語になりつつある様です。
