英語の調べ物をしている時に「end up」という表現がありました。何となくニュアンスは想像できますが、自分で使ったことはありません。早速、「end up」の意味と使い方について調べました。
■ end up – – 結局～になる、最後には～になる、～で終わる、結局～と分かる、～に落ち着く
■ end up ～ ing – – （現在形）結局～になる
■ ended up ～ ing – – （過去形）結局～になってしまった
「end up」は、「結論として～になってしまう（しまった）」というニュアンスを表します。
結局、昨日はどこに泊まることになったんですか？
Where did you end up staying yesterday?
彼は結局、ガールフレンドを怒らせてしまった。
