「商品」に関して話をする時に、「product」という単語が真っ先に思い浮かびますが、それ以外の表現も時々見聞きします。「商品」「製品」「品物」について、早速、調べました。
■ product – – （可算名詞）工業生産物、製品、産出物、産物
これは子供用商品です。
This is a product for kids.
この夏、その商品はよく売れている。
The product is selling well this summer.
夕張市の特産物はメロンです。

この製品の需要が低い。

■ merchandise – – （不可算名詞）商品

■ commodity – – （可算名詞）商品、[農業・鉱業などの]産物

「product」は、一番一般的な「製品」というニュアンスを表します。
「goods」は、売買の商品に関わらず「品物」という広義のニュアンスを表します。
「merchandise」は、形式張った表現で、取引としてやりとりされる「商品」というニュアンスを強く表します。
「commodity」は、あまり一般的に見聞きしない専門的な用語の様に思います。「日用品」「農産物」というニュアンスがあります。また、「Trading」と割と密接な関係を持つ単語で、イメージ検索では、ゴールド、先物取引のイメージが多く見られました。
