「行きがけ」「帰りがけ」って英語で言うと?

「帰りがけに立ち寄ってもらえませんか?」っていう時に、「帰りがけ」の表現に迷いました。「行きがけ」「帰りがけ」について早速、調べました。

「on the way」を使うことで、表現できることがわかりました。
そうなんです。「帰りがけに寄ってください。」は、「帰る途中で寄ってください。」と同じ意味です。

■ look in – – ちょっと立ち寄る。ちょっと訪ねる。様子を見にちょっと寄る。

郵便局へ行きがけに立ち寄ろう。
I will look in on my way to the post office.

駅へ行きがけに君のところへ寄ろう。
I will look in upon you on my way to the station.

■ call by – – (通りすがりに)立ち寄る。

私は帰りがけに立寄った。

I’ll call by at the drugstore on the way home.

彼は駅へ行きがけに友人のところに立ち寄った。
He called by at his friend’s on the way to the station.

私たちは帰りがけに雪に降られた。
We got caught in the snow on our way home.

昔はよく大学からの帰りがけに、カフェへ行ったものだ。
On my way home from university, I would often go to the cafe.


「I looked in on my way.」の場合には、行き帰りはわかりませんので、「通りがけに立寄った。」となります。
